On the 13th of March Wonda Women had another edition of its monthly informal networking dinners at the office of Mama Cash, in which we had the honour of having Salima Guettache as our honorary guest.
Salima Guettache is a lawyer at a large corporate law firm in the financial district in Amsterdam ("Zuidas"). Next to being a lawyer, Salima is active in raising awareness on cultural diversity in and outside her law firm ✊🏽. Furthermore, she is a senior fellow of the organisation Humanity in Action Nederland.
Some insights of the dinner that we do not want to withhold from you:
It is not enough to merely have diversity. You have to have inclusion by trying to create an inclusive work sphere.
Try to change the structure of a sector, don’t try to change a person.
Representation is important, not only for women but also for men. For instance, representation of men who have a job AND have an equal share in child care.
Networking is important especially when you work in a law firm. Especially networking with partners is important.
It is important you feel comfortable with yourself when networking, learn to be comfortable with yourself!
If you are uncomfortable with networking it helps to surround yourself with peers and go to netwerk events together.
Be kind to everyone, stay humble.
And last, but not least:
Your presence and your story is worth it. Remember, you deserve to be there!
